ENDOWED FUNDS

All funds in the Sacred Heart Catholic School Endowment are managed according to the Endowment's Investment Policy Statement. Donors may direct their donations to the fund they choose.

UNRESTRICTED FUNDS - This is the general fund for the Endowment. Each year the Endowment distributes a portion of the interest (4% of the 3-5 year rolling average fund balance) to the school. These funds directly support the school's operating budget.

DESIGNATED FUNDS - Donors may establish a designated fund to aid certain departments or needs of the school. The designated fund may be named by the donor. To establish a named, designated fund requires a gift of $10,000+ within a 5-year pledge period. A fund is eligible to make a distribution to Sacred Heart School for its intended purpose one fiscal year after it is fully funded.

The following are existing Designated Funds:

  • The Carl & Christine Thines Memorial Fund was founded with a $10,000 gift in 2012 by Felix Jr. and Mary Catherine (Thines, ’57) Moix in order to celebrate the family’s connection to the school. When available, an annual award will be made from this fund to the tuition assistance program at Sacred Heart Catholic School. The tuition assistance fund was established to enable students who might not otherwise have the resources to attend SHCS where they will receive a quality, Catholic education. Distributions from this fund to tuition assistance include $435.75 in 2014 and $433.56 in 2015.
  • The Drew Bottoms Memorial Fund was founded in 2014 by Kerry and Patti (Andrews, ’88) Bottoms to commemorate their son Drew, who passed away in June 2014. Drew was proud to be a Sacred Heart Rebel and he represented his school well. In addition to being named Class Salutatorian, Drew was recognized with the Sr. High All-Round Award, the Bill Deaton Student Salute, as an Honor Graduate, and with a Leadership Scholarship to ASU and several local scholarships. Drew was a member of the SH Beta Club, Student Council, Sr. High Quiz Bowl, Key Club and loved spending time on the basketball court as a Rebel. In his Senior will in the 2014 Liber Regis, Drew expressed his Rebel pride when he willed “…my passion to always be a Rebel no matter what to all of the Sacred Heart students.” When available, an annual award will be made from this fund to the Annual Development Project at Sacred Heart Catholic School. This project supports major projects at the school each year.
  • The Cole Hill (’01) and Carl Hill Memorial Fund was founded in 2014 by Janis (Kordsmeier, ’71) Hill and her children Amber (’98) Hoyt, Luke (’03) Hill, and Maegen (’04) Rees, to commemorate Cole Hill and Carl Hill.  Janis and Carl’s son Cole graduated from Sacred Heart in 2001; he passed away in 2009.  The year following his passing, the family began hosting a memorial golf tournament with a majority of the proceeds benefiting Sacred Heart School.  In 2013, Janis’ husband Carl passed away; the family continued the golf tournament in memory of both of the Hill men.  Despite their grief, the family rallied around their shared love for Sacred Heart – a placed where a young Cole carved his name in nearly every space he could find.  This endowed fund was established in 2014 as a way to recognize Cole and Carl’s affection for Sacred Heart for years and generations to come.  When available, an annual award will be made from this fund to the Annual Development Project at Sacred Heart Catholic School.  The memorial golf tournament has supported this project since it began in 2010 and because of their support, many significant improvements have been made to the school.
  • The Clem & Delores (DeSalvo, ‘58) Hartman Teacher Appreciation Fund was founded in 2015 by Delores Hartman.
“Why God created teachers, in His wisdom and His grace, was to help us learn to make our world a better, wiser place.”
Delores attended Catholic Point School in Center Ridge until her 10th grade year.  Her parents stressed to her and her all of her siblings that education is of the utmost importance in life.  She then enrolled at Sacred Heart and, thanks to many sacrifices made by her family who believed strongly in the value of Catholic education, Delores graduated from Sacred Heart in 1958.
In addition to many years of service on the Sacred Heart School Board, Bazaar Committee, Endowment Board, and Booster Club, Delores also spent many years handling the payroll for the school and the bookkeeping for the cafeteria. With their unyielding belief in the necessity of an outstanding Catholic education, Clem and Delores ensured that their two sons, Mark (’81) and David (’84), both graduated from Sacred Heart.  They volunteered many evenings working spaghetti dinners and other fundraisers to benefit the school.
This fund was established to carry on the legacy of their unwavering believe in the priority of excellence in education.  This Teacher Appreciation Fund is intended to assist Sacred Heart Catholic School in recruiting and retaining the very best faculty to promote a quality Catholic education; it will provide an annual bonus for teachers and will provide an incentive for teachers to remain at Sacred Heart Catholic School.  To the world you may just be a teacher, but to your students you are a HERO!!
